Synopsis : 83 year old Vidyadutt Sharma holds the record for growing the heaviest radish in India weighing 23 kgs. He now aims to beat the world record of 31 kgs. Over the last five decades, he has built up Moti Bagh, his 5 acre farm in a small Himalayan village in northern India.
Around him lie 7000 ghost villages, left to die, with no one to till the land – a chilling testimony to large scale migration by locals in search of employment in the cities. With no manpower at their disposal, the few locals are employing Nepali labour. But there is unease because of this dependence and the growing influence of the Nepalis.
As market forces exert pressure, family dynamics are also changing. Vidyadutt's journalist son, Tribhuvan, lives and works in Pauri, a large town 35 kms from Moti Bagh. His two children wish to chase their own dreams in the metros.
Vidyadutt Sharma, farmer, activist and poet, chronicles the changing landscape in verses of resistance. As he and Ram Singh, his Nepali farmhand, plough the fields to keep a dream called Moti Bagh alive, we wonder if it will ever return to its old glory.

About the director: NIRMAL CHANDER is a multiple National Award winning filmmaker who has been working in the field of documentaries for over two decades. His films have received awards at many national and international festivals and have been telecast on NDTV and Doordarshan.
His latest documentary MOTI BAGH is the Entry to the Oscars for 2019.
He has also conducted workshops on documentary filmmaking and has served on juries at several film festivals.

ReplyDeleteविद्यादत्त जी का प्रयास निःसन्देह अनुकरणीय है लेकिन वास्तविकता का आईना यह है कि विद्यादत्त जी के आह्वान एवं दृष्टिकोण को उनके पुत्र, पुत्रवधु और पोते पोतियां ही नकार रहे हैं। इन्हें भी लगता है कि बेहतर जिंदगी और बेहतर भविष्य के लिए पौड़ी जैसे छोटे शहर से निकलकर किसी बड़े शहर में ही जाना होगा। शर्मा जी के पुत्र ने बेहतर रोजगार की तलाश में गांव से निकलकर पौड़ी का रुख किया और इनके पोते पोतियां पौड़ी से निकलकर किसी महानगर की ओर पलायन करना चाहते हैं। और वास्तव में यही पहाड़ की सच्चाई है।
ReplyDeleteहालांकि, जैसे विद्यादत्त जी का भी कहना है, पहाड़ से पलायन रोकने में चकबन्दी एक अहम कदम साबित हो सकता है, लेकिन इसके लिए निश्चित रूप से राजनीतिक इच्छाशक्ति की जरूरत होगी, जो कि आज किसी नेता या राजनीतिक दल में नजर नहीं आती है।
इसलिये मेरा मानना है कि यदि किसी भी गांव या छोटे नगर, शहर से पलायन रोकना है तो इसका एक ही इलाज है कि सभी प्राइवेट स्कूल बंद कर दिए जांय और शिक्षा की पूरी जिम्मेदारी सरकार ही उठाये, जैसा कि हमारे संविधान में भी कहा गया है। क्योंकि यह हकीकत है कि पहाड़ों से पलायन में सबसे बड़ी भूमिका बच्चों को तथाकथित अच्छी शिक्षा दिलाने की ही है। हालांकि कुछ लोग मानते हैं कि रोजगार के कारण पलायन हमारे गांव खाली हो रहे हैं। लेकिन यह हकीकत नहीं है क्योंकि रोजगार के लिये तो यहां का युवा हमेशा ही गांव से बाहर निकला है लेकिन तब कभी गांव खाली नहीं हुए थे। इसलिए मेरी नजर में रोजगार के बजाय बच्चों की अच्छी शिक्षा पलायन का सबसे बड़ा कारण है।
